THE FINGERFCK® HANDBOOK: APPLICATION & SAFETY
Your natural nails are the foundation. Damage them once, and you’re looking at months of recovery. Most press‑on failures – lifting, popping off, or ripped nail beds – come down to three amateur mistakes: skipping prep, wrong sizing, or ripping them off instead of soaking.
Getting it right gives you:
- 7–14 days of secure wear without lifting
- Zero damage to your natural nail plate
- Reusable press‑ons (saves your cash)
- No painful breakage or thin, peeling nails after removal
The Goal: Salon finish at home, healthy nails underneath. Follow these steps exactly – shortcuts cost you time and your natural nails.
MANDATORY SAFETY NOTICE: PROGRIP NAIL BOND
Fingerfck® Progrip Nail Bond is a professional-grade, 100% Ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate cosmetic adhesive. This is not watered-down department store craft glue. Because of its maximum-strength formulation, you MUST follow these safety rules:
THE COTTON HAZARD: Do NOT use pure cotton pads, cotton balls, Q-tips, tissues, or paper towels to wipe up wet glue. Cyanoacrylate reacts violently with natural cotton/cellulose fibers on a chemical level. It will instantly polymerise, generate extreme heat, smoke, and can cause severe skin burns or ruin your clothes.
CLOTHING: Keep it off your jeans, sweatpants, and tops. If it hits 100% cotton fabric, it will react and burn the skin underneath.
OOPS, TOO MUCH GLUE? HERE IS THE CLEANUP PLAYBOOK:
Do not panic, and keep the cotton away. Use the tools already inside your Fingerfck® kit:
1. IF IT’S STILL WET: Grab your Alcohol Prep Pad immediately. (Our wipes are synthetic/paper blends and will not smoke). Use a clean edge of the wipe to swipe the wet glue off the skin in *one direction*. Do not scrub it back and forth, or you will just smear the sticky sludge.
2. IF IT’S ALREADY DRY: Do not try to rip or scrape it off dry skin. Take your Cuticle Oil Wipe and rub the oil directly into the hardened glue. The premium oil will seep underneath the crust, lubricate your skin, break the adhesive bond, and allow the dry glue to peel off cleanly without taking your skin with it.
GLUE METHOD – FOR MAXIMUM HOLD (7–14 DAYS)
Why this works: Progrip adhesive bonds best to a prepared, oil‑free surface. Double‑gluing (on both your natural nail and the press‑on) eliminates air pockets that cause premature lifting.
The benefit: One application lasts through dishwashing, typing, working out, and daily life. No re‑gluing every two days.
Step‑by‑step:
1. Size first (dry fit, no glue) – Lay each press‑on against your bare natural nail. The edge must touch both sidewalls with no gap and no overhang.
Note: Every Fingerfck® kit comes loaded with a 20-piece configuration combining our full Medium and Large layout runs. Use this double-stack to map out your perfect 10, and keep the remaining 10 as insurance backups.
Why: A nail that overlaps skin will lift within hours. Too small and it will pop off.
2. Buff the press‑on (inside) – Lightly buff the inside surface of each press‑on nail with your branded buffer or fine‑grit file. Just enough to dull the shine — do not remove material.
Why: A smooth plastic surface gives glue nothing to grip. Lightly roughening it creates texture, significantly improving bond strength.
3. Prep your natural nails (CRITICAL) – Cut nails short. Gently push back cuticles using the 9cm cuticle pusher (do not cut). Buff each natural nail until the natural shine is gone. Wipe each nail thoroughly with the Alcohol Prep Pad to remove all dust and oil. Do not touch your nails after wiping.
Why: Buffing creates microscopic grip. Alcohol removes oil — glue will not stick to oily surfaces.
4. Glue – Apply a thin, even layer of Fingerfck® Progrip Nail Bond to your natural nail AND to the back of the press‑on. Keep your hands steady and avoid getting glue on skin or cuticles.
Why: Two layers bond to each other, filling tiny gaps. Skin contact causes lifting and irritation.
5. Press – Align the press‑on at your cuticle line first at a 45-degree angle. Press down firmly from centre to edges to push out air. Hold heavy pressure for 30–60 seconds. Do not reposition or slide the nail after 5 seconds.
Why: Pressure activates the bond and pushes out air bubbles. Moving the nail creates weak spots.
6. Set – Avoid water, lotion, or any hand products for 2 hours.
Why: Cyanoacrylate needs time to fully polymerise. Water interrupts the chemical cure.
7. Hydrate – After 2 hours, rub the Cuticle Oil Wipe on the skin and cuticles around your nails only – not on the nail plates themselves.
Why: Getting oil directly on the fresh glue bond softens it, causing lifting. The surrounding skin still needs hydration to prevent hangnails.
GEL TABS METHOD – FOR QUICK CHANGE & REUSE (1–3 DAYS)
Why this works: Gel tabs are pressure‑sensitive adhesives that grip best on a clean, slightly textured surface.
The benefit: Zero commitment. Change your nail design to match your outfit. Reuse the same press‑ons dozens of times. Perfect for events, weekends, or sensitive nails that hate glue.
Step‑by‑step:
1. Size press‑on first (no prep yet) – Before any cleaning, lay each press‑on against your bare nail. Match the press‑on to your natural nail — same "no gap, no overhang" rule. Layout your matched sizes in order.
Why: Sizing first prevents contamination. If you clean your nails first then touch the press-ons to size them, you transfer skin oil straight back onto your prepped surface.
2. Buff the press‑on (inside) – Lightly buff the inside surface of each press‑on nail with your branded buffer. Just enough to dull the shine.
Why: Gives the gel tab a textured surface to bite into.
3. Prep your natural nails – Wash hands with soap and water, dry thoroughly. Trim and file nails, push back cuticles with your 9cm pusher. Lightly buff each natural nail until the shine is gone. Wipe each nail with the Alcohol Prep Pad to remove all dust and oil. Do not touch after cleaning.
4. Select gel tab size – Choose a gel tab that fits completely within your natural nail plate. If the tab touches skin or cuticle, it won't stick. Pick a slightly smaller tab rather than larger.
Why: A tab that overhangs onto skin will lift at the edges, catching on hair and clothing.
5. Apply tab – Peel tab from sheet, stick onto your natural nail, press flat for 5 seconds. Smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles. Peel off the clear protective film.
6. Attach nail – Align press‑on at the cuticle line. Press down firmly and hold for 30 seconds (covering centre and both edges).
Why: Heavy pressure activates the adhesive fully.
7. Set – Avoid water for 1 hour.
Why: Water seeps under unsealed edges and dissolves the adhesive before it fully sets.
8. Hydrate – After 1 hour, use the Cuticle Oil Wipe on the skin around your nails.
REMOVAL GUIDE – DAMAGE‑FREE TAKEOFF
Why this matters: Your natural nail has delicate layers. Ripping or peeling off a press‑on strips those layers, leaving you with thin, weak, painful nails for months. Proper removal preserves nail health so you can reapply immediately.
FOR GLUE METHOD: Soak nails in warm soapy water mixed with a few drops of body oil or olive oil for 10–15 minutes. Gently lift edges with your cuticle stick. If the glue is stubborn, rub your Cuticle Oil Wipe around the lifting edges to let the oil break the bond from underneath. Repeat soaking if needed – NEVER FORCE IT.
FOR GEL TABS METHOD: Gently peel from one side. Tabs will stay on your natural nail – roll them off cleanly with your thumb.
REUSING PRESS‑ONS AFTER REMOVAL:
Remove old glue or tab residue from inside the press‑on by scraping gently and wiping with alcohol. Store them flat in a cool, dry place. Old dried glue prevents a flat, secure fit on your next wear.
AFTERCARE – KEEP YOUR NAILS HEALTHY BETWEEN SETS
Even with perfect application, your natural nails need a break from adhesives and moisture occlusion.
Do this after every removal:
- Apply cuticle oil to the skin around your nails every night to keep the tissue flexible and healthy.
- Let your natural nails breathe for 24–48 hours before reapplying a fresh Fingerfck® set.
- If you see white spots or peeling from past bad habits, take a week off and use a nail strengthener.
Signs you’re damaging your nails (STOP IMMEDIATELY):
- Pain or burning during removal (you are pulling too fast)
- Visible peeling or flaking on the natural nail surface
- Red, swollen, or irritated cuticles
Healthy nails = better grip = longer wear. Sacrifice the health, and even the best glue won’t hold.
PRO TIP: FOR A SALON‑GRADE, HIGH‑SHINE FINISH
Take your manicure to the next level by sealing your press‑ons with a UV gel top coat. This adds a layer of professional gloss and significantly boosts durability.
Why add this step?
Extended wear: It forms a protective seal over the nail edges, helping to prevent lifting.
Superior protection: The cured top coat creates a tough shield against chips, scratches, and colour fading.
High‑shine finish: It delivers a glossy, mirror‑like shine that mimics a $120 salon gel manicure.
How to do it:
1. Apply: Once your press‑ons are securely bonded and set, brush on a thin, even layer of UV gel top coat. Lightly swipe the brush over the free edge (the very tip) of the nail to cap and seal it.
2. Cure: Place your hand under a UV or LED lamp.
Most UV lamps: cure for 90 seconds.
High‑powered LED lamps: cure for 30–60 seconds.
3. Optional – reapply: For extra‑long wear or an ultra‑glossy look, apply a second thin coat after the first has fully cured.
Note on removal: UV gel top coat is incredibly durable. To remove it when you are ready for a completely fresh design, soak the press‑ons in pure acetone.
